2027: Elliot Offers Apology to Gbajabiamila, Saying 'If I've Made a Mistake, I Regret It

Desmond Olusola Elliot, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has formally collected his nomination form to seek re-election, and in the process, appealed to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, for forgiveness if he had caused any offense while serving his constituency.

Elliot's appeal for forgiveness came as he fielded questions from newsmen after obtaining his nomination form for the 2027 polls, during which he referred to his leader as a compassionate and thoughtful individual, acknowledging that children sometimes make mistakes and expressing his desire to make amends and continue working for the people.

When asked about reports of rejection by the Surulere Accountability Forum, Elliot dismissed the claims as mere political propaganda, stating that he was unfamiliar with the group and that his focus was on declaring his intentions to the CDA, which was evident for all to see.

Defending his decision to run for a fourth term, Elliot argued that experience in the legislature yields greater benefits for constituents, citing the example of the longer a lawmaker stays in office, the better they become and the more they can deliver for their people.

Elliot highlighted the need for continued development in areas such as roads and job creation, where ranking members can secure more slots and better committees to drive progress, as evident in the strides made in Surulere.

If re-elected, Elliot plans to push for the establishment of an Institute of Legislative Studies and the Lagos State Orientation Agency, aiming to educate younger generations about the legislature from primary and secondary school levels and promote moral values and culture in society.

Elliot emphasized the importance of legislative experience, likening government to a continuum, where continuous representation allows lawmakers to build on their experience and secure more benefits for their constituents, rather than starting anew with each election.

He drew parallels with his leader, who, in his fourth term, attempted to become Speaker and ultimately succeeded in his fifth term, highlighting the value of experience and seniority in achieving such positions of leadership.
