2027: Amaechi Scolds ADC, Saying They Can't Denounce Manipulation While Declaring Outcomes

Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress' presidential primary, citing widespread disenfranchisement of members and manipulation of the process by the party's leadership.

This rejection comes at a critical juncture for the opposition party, which is seeking to position itself as a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement posted on X, Amaechi denounced the results as "concocted" and reiterated his commitment to only accepting the outcome of a free, fair, and transparent process.

Amaechi stated, "I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the Primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word.

He further emphasized his refusal to accept results from a process that fails to uphold the values the African Democratic Congress has pledged to defend, particularly in the face of the ruling party's impunity and mismanagement.

Amaechi alleged that nearly 80 per cent of party members were denied the opportunity to participate in the voting exercise, a claim that undermines the legitimacy of the primary.

He questioned the validity of the results, asking, "There's no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results.

Amaechi noted that the African Democratic Congress was established to provide a voice for ordinary Nigerians and offer a genuine alternative to the kind of politics it once condemned.

He criticized the party leadership, stating, "A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results, cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results, and other electoral malpractices that leads to the disenfranchisement of voters who are party members.

Amaechi's remarks are expected to escalate tensions within the African Democratic Congress and increase scrutiny of the party's presidential primary process as opposition parties prepare for the 2027 general election.
