2027: Adebayo Offers Comfort to a Nation in Pain

Adewole Adebayo, a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party, is emerging as a distinct national leader, one who believes in standing with the people during their most challenging times, by physically visiting communities devastated by banditry, kidnappings, and mass killings.

His series of condolence visits to Plateau, Oyo, and Ekiti states have led many supporters to describe his actions as those of a "president-in-waiting", a leader who not only talks about insecurity but also takes the time to comfort victims and offer hope to grieving communities.

Adebayo's philosophy, which he emphasizes at every stop, is that "democracy is not about discussion but participation", and for him, leadership is about being present in the midst of the people's pain, fears, and struggles, rather than just making speeches or issuing statements from a distance.

This philosophy has driven his nationwide condolence and solidarity visits, which have taken him to communities such as Angwa Rukuba in Plateau State, where he sat with grieving families, listened to their stories, and offered financial support, saying "the people of this community are saddened and battered, but they will not leave this land, God is always responsible, even if the government is not".

Adebayo's words reflected both compassion for the victims and anger over the repeated failures of governance, as he argued that the attackers terrorizing communities across Nigeria are "neither more powerful nor more intelligent than the institutions of state", and that insecurity persists because leaders have failed to prioritize justice and protection of citizens.

In Ibadan, Oyo State, Adebayo visited Governor Seyi Makinde and accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing Nigerians on security, saying "President Tinubu has failed in his duties as Commander-in-Chief", and emphasizing that the office of president is not ceremonial, but rather requires a leader to be present and engaged with the people's suffering.

Adebayo took his message of comfort and support to Eda-Oniyo, Ekiti State, where he condemned the killings and kidnappings of worshippers and church members by armed bandits, and maintained that the Nigerian state must be rebuilt around the protection of lives and property, saying that insecurity is not just a security issue, but a moral test of leadership.

While President Tinubu has also visited affected communities and launched initiatives such as "Operation Savannah Shield", critics argue that the federal government's responses have become predictable and ineffective, with Adebayo criticizing the President for failing to visit the actual scene of killings and for politicizing condolence visits.

Adebayo has made it clear that, if elected president, he would continue to engage with communities in the same way, saying "this is what I would be doing as president — attending to the problems of insecurity and physically being with my people", and positioning himself as an accessible, empathetic, and involved leader.
