2027: Adamu of SDP vows to focus on substantive issues, rules out smear tactics in upcoming campaigns

The campaign council of Social Democratic Party (SDP) Gubernatorial Candidate and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Adamu has vowed to focus its campaigns on issues affecting the electorate, rather than engaging in calumny that could spark violence in the State.

This commitment was made public by Abdulahi Yammani, the campaign organisation's Director General, during a meeting with journalists on Sunday, following a strategy session with the campaign team ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifting its ban on political campaigns.

According to Yammani, the campaign's primary goal is to promote peace and stability in Nasarawa State, as these are essential for progress and the success of the election.

He emphasized the importance of conducting campaigns in an orderly and lawful manner, as outlined by INEC and the laws of the land, and encouraged supporters to maintain peace and avoid violence.

Yammani noted that sensitising the campaign council is crucial to avoid associating the former IGP with violence, which is often a characteristic of political campaigns due to the prevailing 'do or die' attitude.

He attributed former IGP Adamu's significant grassroots support across the State to his impressive pedigree, which sets him apart from other contenders in the race.

Yammani highlighted Adamu's distinguished track record, including his tenure as Inspector General of Police and his role as the first African to become Deputy Chairman of Interpol, as well as the first Nigerian to head the African Mission of Interpol.

According to Yammani, Adamu's achievements and experience make him the most suitable candidate to move Nasarawa State forward, and his past contributions to the State, including the establishment of police infrastructure and secondary schools, are a testament to this.

Adamu and his wife, Rukayat Muhamed Adamu, have also been recognised for their charitable efforts, providing support to vulnerable individuals and families with food, welfare packages, and other essential items, even before entering politics.

Yammani viewed this support as a reflection of the couple's commitment to humanity and their faith, and believed that the electorate's positive response is a reward for their selfless actions.

He urged the electorate and supporters of the former IGP to remain calm, conduct themselves in a lawful manner, and await the outcome of the election, which he predicted would be in their favour.
