The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, has stated that the party’s strength lies in the support of the people, not federal influence, as the August 15 election approaches.
Speaking during the distribution of Renewed Hope food packs to 4,000 Osun Muslims by Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas on Thursday, Oyebamiji dismissed claims by the State Government that the APC would rely on federal power to secure victory.
“There is no way we can rely on federal might. We have consulted throughout the 30 local governments, engaged traditional rulers, men, and women. We are working and will continue to work until we have the opportunity to serve as Governor of Osun State. People’s support is our greatest power,” he said.
He urged all eligible adults in the state to register and participate in the ongoing voters’ registration, emphasizing the need for collective effort to return a progressive government to Osun.
Earlier, the Secretary of the distribution group, Mr. Abdulganiy Sahid, described the food aid as a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Muslims, particularly in the southwest, despite historical underrepresentation in federal appointments.
“This is the first time a sitting president has distributed Ramadan packages to the Muslim Ummah in Yorubaland and across the nation,” Sahid said. He called on the President to maintain fairness and equity in political appointments, ensuring that the community’s voice is adequately represented.
He added that the Muslim community’s support for President Tinubu would encourage continued benevolent initiatives for Osun State and the nation at large.
